What exactly is VLSI ?

VLSI stands for Very Large Scale Integrated Circuits. VLSI deals with designing and manufacturing of ICs which can nowadays be found within any electronic component around you, the most common and important example of an IC is processor of your laptop/computer.

What is the scope of VLSI ?

VLSI is one of the fastest and enormously growing technologies. Today is the world of Computers and, computers without IC chips are just boxes of no use. Nowadays, ICs are everywhere inside cars, airplanes, mobile phones, laptops, wearable smart watches, cameras, space stations, and where not !!

The need today is of more and more processing, automation which needs more and more ICs. But, the problem is making such ICs is not thaaat easy !! So, this field requires more talented engineers to design such nanometer level small & highly complex things.

As the need of electronic devices is increasing so is the demand of engineers and professionals for this field. You would have heard of automobile and other industries coming to slowdown because of non-availability of ICs for their cars/devices. Thats enough to understand how important ICs are! 😉

VLSI or IT, which job/field is better ?

Both are good, just follow your passion you will end up good. I mean, if you are good with the skills required for your job you will be valued and well paid. Just one thing is there that, everything is in ample for IT be it learning resources, job opportunities, no. of companies, engineers but, not the same for VLSI 😄

How to prepare for VLSI Industry ?

You need to start preparing from college itself, clear up your basics, know VLSI design flow, get familiar with design tools then make professional connections to get help anytime for any of your doubts.

How to get placed in VLSI industry ?

If you are from top tier college VLSI companies must be visiting your college, crack interviews there itself. Else you can apply directly. Most companies need engineers with hands on to tools so, for that you can join some training institutes then apply for job opportunities.
